LAX COMMENTS ON TERMINAL EVACUATIONS
Los Angeles, California -- February 28, 2002) At 6:30 this morning, Los Angeles International Airport Police and the airlines began evacuating Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 because one of the metal detectors at the Terminal 4 passenger screening area under the oversight of the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was not functioning properly. This follows LAX's security procedures when it is learned that people have entered the secured areas without proper security screening.

AIRPORT OFFICIAL ORDERS CLOSURE OF TUNNELS CONNECTING SOUTHSIDE PASSENGER TERMINALS AT LOS ANGELES AIRPORT

 

(Los Angeles, California -- February 28, 2002) Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Lydia H. Kennard today directed the closure of two connecting tunnels between southside passenger terminals at Los Angeles World Airports. This action is being taken based upon the preliminary review of today's multiple-terminal evacuation and is in the best interest of the traveling public by precluding future evacuations should a security breach occur at one of these terminals.

NEW PARKING RATES AT LAX, VAN NUYS FLYAWAY EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 15

 

(Los Angeles, California – February 13, 2002) New increased daily rates charged for parking at facilities located adjacent to the passenger terminals and at economy lots at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys FlyAway become effective Friday, February 15. The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved the rate increases at its Jan. 15 public meeting.

ANOTHER CONTRACT AWARDED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING IN SOUTH LOS ANGELES COUNCIL DISTRICT 8

 

(Los Angeles, California -- February 12, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded Professional Building Contractors, Inc. (PBC) a contract for residential soundproofing near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The $1,255,000 contract will cover sound-insulation modifications on 46 single- and multi-family residences located within the noise-impacted area of Council District 8 in South Los Angeles.

ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT NEW PARKING RATES TO TAKE EFFECT FEBRUARY 15, 2002
"The new parking rates reflect ONT's objectives to eliminate traffic congestion in front of the terminals and to encourage overnight users to use our economy lot," said Airport Manager Jens Rivera. "The new rates also provide differentiated pricing that will better accommodate airport visitors who need to briefly drop off or pick up passengers in a convenient manner and at a reasonable charge."

Hahn and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officials today announced the resumption of commercial film and photography productions under a modified policy at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). All commercial filming and photography activities on the airport's restricted airfield and Central Terminal Area ceased in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, when more restrictive, federally mandated airport security measures were implemented.

LAX REPORTS 2001 YEAR-END PASSENGER, CARGO VOLUMES; MONTHLY VOLUMES CONTINUE UPWARD TREND FROM SEPTEMBER 11
(Los Angeles, California -- January 24, 2002) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) officials today released year-end statistics showing the airport served 61,595,509 passengers and processed 1,956,340 tons of air cargo in 2001. These figures represent 91.52 percent of the 67,303,182 passengers and 87.03 percent of the 2,247,833 tons of air cargo the airport processed in 2000. Airport officials note that while 2001 passenger and air cargo totals approximate those in 1998, both areas have shown improvement month-to-month since the period immediately following the September 11 terrorist attacks.
