LAX'S THEME BUILDING EXTERIOR RENOVATION TO BEGIN; ENCOUNTER RESTAURANT CLOSED DURING PROJECT
(Los Angeles, California – March 8, 2007) The popular, space-aged themed Encounter Restaurant at the top of Los Angeles International Airport's landmark Theme Building will be closed until further notice while renovation to the upper arches is performed. Ground-level offices, the City Deli cafeteria, and the airport's commissary that provides food to the rest of the airport's concessions will remain open. The renovation project is expected to last approximately six months. However, the restaurant is expected to open much sooner.

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT GETS HIGH NATIONAL RATING WITH ITS ENERGY-THROUGH-RECYCLING PROGRAM

LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE OFFICERS RECOGNIZED FOR SAVING LIFE OF HEART ATTACK VICTIM

(Los Angeles, California – March 2, 2007) Four Los Angeles Airport Police officers are recognized for saving the life of a male traveler at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) February 17.

On February 17, at approximately 12:35 p.m., Los Angeles Airport Police Officers Baquar Syed, James Adrian, Sandra Kimber and Masis Sossikian responded to Terminal 7 near the Transportation Security Administration screening check point for an emergency radio call of an unconscious male traveler who reportedly suffered a heart attack. Officer Adrian responded with a department issued Automated External Defibrillator (AED) while Officer Syed prepared to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). At that time, Centinela First Aid arrived and assisted the officers.

AIRPORTS’ RECYCLING/SOURCE REDUCTION PROGRAMS EXPECTED TO EXCEED CITY RECYCLING GOALS
(Los Angeles, California – March 1, 2007)  Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), like similar entities throughout the state, currently has very successful recycling and source reduction programs underway.  However, unlike many of the others, it is expected to meet and exceed Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa’s citywide recycling goal of 70 percent by 2015.  In fact, LAWA recently reported that it has already achieved a 61.5 percent reduction rate for 2005—the latest year for which results have been tallied.

$723.5-MILLION LAX TOM BRADLEY INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL RENOVATION BEGINS; LARGEST INDIVIDUAL PROJECT IN LOS ANGELES CITY HISTORY

Villaraigosa was joined today by airport and airline officials in a ceremony to break ground on a long-awaited major renovation of the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The $723.5-million project calls for major interior renovations, installation of an in-line checked-baggage security system, and a second boarding gate for new large aircraft.

CRIME DOWN 6.4 PERCENT AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
    (Los Angeles, California - February 2, 2007) Law enforcement officials at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) reported that overall crime in 2006 dropped 6.4 percent compared to 2005. This includes a 24 percent drop in property crime as passenger volume in 2006 of more than 61 million travelers was just under the 2005 level. The total number of crimes reported last year was 2,520, compared to 2,694 in 2005.
