135 Local Residents Turnout for HireLAX Orientation

(Los Angeles, CA) This past weekend, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) joined with Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Los Angeles Southwest College, the County of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council to host a mandatory orientation for the second class of the HireLAX program.

LAX Will Temporarily Move its G-Shuttle to Hawthorne/Lennox Station Starting Jan. 26

(Los Angeles, CA) Riders who use the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) shuttle from the Aviation/LAX Metro Station will see a change in service starting on Friday, January 26, related to construction work needed to tie the Green Line tracks in to the new Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project. Beginning at 9 p.m. on January 26, the LAX “G” Shuttle will pick up and drop off passengers at the Hawthorne/Lennox Metro Station, about four miles east of the airport. The change is necessary because Metro’s light rail service will not be available at five stations west of Hawthorne/Lennox (Aviation/LAX, Mariposa, El Segundo, Douglas and Redondo Beach) during the construction.

LAX to Temporarily Close Runway on South Side of Airport for Rehabilitation Work, Lighting Improvements

(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced today that Runway 7L/25R, located on the south side of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will be closed for approximately four months for a reconstruction project. The closure will begin on Saturday, January 20, at 1:30 a.m., and is expected to last until mid-May.

LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS AUTHORIZES $336M DESIGN-BUILD CONTRACT TO CONSTRUCT TERMINAL CORES FOR LAX'S AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER

(Los Angeles, CA) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) authorized the award of a $336.5 million contract to design and build three terminal cores as part of Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP). The terminal cores consist of new and upgraded facilities that will be built in key locations around the terminal area to provide staircases, escalators, elevators, and walkways that will connect Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) terminals with the new Automated People Mover (APM). The five-year design-build (DB) contract was awarded to Austin Commercial, LP., of Dallas, Texas.

Board of Airport Commissioners Approve Contract to Install 2,200 New Security Bollards at LAX

(Los Angeles, CA) Today, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) awarded a contract for the construction of permanent security bollards throughout the Central Terminal Area (CTA) of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The bollards, which will be installed in the coming months, will enhance airport security by providing a permanent separation between the roadway and pedestrian pathways. The bollards will replace K-rails, which were temporarily installed this past holiday season.

We have executed plans for modernizing terminals and amenities as well as introduced new international routes. Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the record-breaking numbers today at LAX’s Tom Bradley International Terminal, alongside Councilmember Joe Buscaino and leaders from the Los Angeles Convention & Tourism Development Department, the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, Los Angeles World Airports, and the Port of Los Angeles.

January Modernization Update
• Westbound 105 ramp from Northbound 405 closes for four months.

• End of holiday construction moratorium on Thursday means changes at Terminal 1 Upper/Departures Level.

• Access to Parking Structure 4 will be limited starting later this month.

• LAX G Shuttle will move its pick-up and drop-off to Hawthorne/Lennox Station during a Metro project that will suspend Green Line rail service further west starting January 26.

VIVA AEROBUS INAUGURATES NONSTOP SERVICE FROM LAX TO GDL
Yesterday evening, Viva Aerobus, Mexico's ultra-low-cost airline, celebrated the inauguration of its Guadalajara (GDL) - Los Angeles (LAX) route. It is the first time that the airline is operating at LAX. This route offers daily service and prices starting from $2,051 pesos (USD $109) on single flights with taxes included.
