Fresh Flavors, Local Brands Headed To LAX's Terminal 1
(Los Angeles, CA) The wait is over as LAX Terminal 1 reaches its final phase of redevelopment in 2018. Los Angeles World Airports, Southwest®, and Westfield are bringing new energy and excitement amid a $508 million modernization project of LAX Terminal 1 scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018. The project, which launched in September 2014, has been intentionally constructed to minimize impact to passengers. The final phase of the redevelopment includes 10 new dining and retail destinations, three L.A.-based concepts and three airport firsts.

LAWA Opens Up Draft RFQ Comment Period For The Northside Project At Lax
(Los Angeles, CA) This week, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) opened up the comment period for the Draft Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the LAX Northside Area project. The LAX Northside Area is located immediately adjacent to LAX and in proximity to high-quality educational institutions, a world-class tech hub, a retail corridor and residential areas. The area is approximately 93 acres situated between the north airfield of LAX and the communities of Westchester and Playa del Rey. It stretches from Loyola Boulevard and Westchester Parkway on the east to Pershing Drive on the west. Given the size and location of the property, the project area provides opportunities for innovative proposals on how to utilize the land within the constraints of the guidelines created with the input of the local community.

“Edge4vets” Veterans Job Readiness Seminar Returns To Lax In April
(Los Angeles, CA) The “Edge4Vets” veterans job readiness seminar is returning to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Tuesday, April 24. This unique program, which prepares veterans to be job-ready ahead of face-to-face meetings with managers and hiring companies, will be hosted at the LAX Hyatt Regency, and will feature over 20 hiring companies that operate in around LAX. Registration for the seminar is currently open, and participation and attendance is free of charge.

Los Angeles World Airports Staff and Airport Police Attend Advanced Emergency Readiness Course
(Los Angeles, CA) Employees from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Van Nuys Airport (VNY), and first responders from the Airport Police Department (APD) and Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) just returned from a one-week advanced emergency management training program designed to enhance inter-agency integration and operational efficiency in preparation for a possible emergency at LAX or VNY. The training is part of LAWA’s ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and security innovation. It took place at Texas A&M's Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in College Station, Texas, and was paid for through federal grant funding.

The Bay Foundation Expands its Role at LAX Dunes
(Los Angeles, CA) The Bay Foundation (TBF) has signed a one-year agreement with the Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) to conduct monitoring and continue restoration at the LAX Dunes.  The LAX Dunes are the largest remaining coastal dune community in Southern California.  TBF monitoring will assess the extent of LAWA’s restoration and provide reports with recommendations.  Continued restoration will include monthly and special volunteer events, student internship projects, and expanded outreach efforts.

LAX Hosts Cargo-Focused Education Event With Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce
(Los Angeles, CA)  Nearly 100 high school students from all over Los Angeles arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) this morning for an up close and personal look at international trade at the nation’s second-busiest airport. The event is part of an ongoing education series coordinated by World Trade Week (WTW) Education Committee and International Trade Education Programs (ITEP). The day included an airfield tour and a visit to Delta Air Lines’ cargo facilities, as well as having the students work with mentors from the Los Angeles Air Cargo Association and Customs and Border Protection to apply their problem-solving skills to cargo-related scenarios.
