LANDMARK LAX THEME BUILDING COMPLETES $12.3-MILLION RENOVATION; OBSERVATION DECK TO RE-OPEN JULY 10

Villaraigosa was joined today by City Councilmembers Bill Rosendahl and Janice Hahn, airport commissioners and business leaders in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate completion of a $12.3-million renovation and seismic retrofit of the iconic Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

LAX’S SUMMER ACE ACADEMY DARES YOUTH TO LOOK BEYOND THE SKIES FOR AVIATION CAREERS
(Los Angeles, California – July 1, 2010)   Local youth will get a chance to broaden their horizons and learn about various aviation careers as part of LAX’s Summer ACE (Aviation Career Education) Academy that will be held from Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16.  This free week-long program will showcase aviation-related careers that are based in Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX) and Van Nuys General Aviation Airport (VNY).

ARCHITECT MODERNIZING LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RECEIVES HIGHEST AWARD FOR PUBLIC ARCHITECTURE
(Los Angeles, California – June 29, 2010)  Curtis Fentress, the architect responsible for the design vision for an extensive, multi-billion dollar modernization of Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX), has received the Thomas Jefferson Award, the highest award for public architecture by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The award recognizes Fentress for “a portfolio of accomplishments that evidences great depth while making a significant contribution to the quality of public architecture.”

LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO IMPROVE VITAL INTERSECTIONS BORDERING EL SEGUNDO FOR MITIGATING CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC IMPACTS

LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE SWEARS IN FOUR NEW POLICE OFFICERS

(Los Angeles, California – June 23, 2010)  Four new police officers are joining the ranks of the Los Angeles Airport Police following their June 18 graduation from the Los Angeles Police Academy. 

            Los Angeles Airport Police Chief George R. Centeno performed the swearing in of graduates Charles Yoon, Rafaela Vasquez, Chad White and Jose Viramontes.  Offficer Yoon  was selected class president by his academy peers, an honor recognizing his leadership and assertiveness that is observed within the first four or five weeks of being in the academy
