Local Youths Aged 16-24 Participate in New Volunteer Program at LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has expanded its popular Volunteer Information Professionals (VIP) program to include a new program for students, the LAXceeders Student Volunteer Program. The year-round program is open to high school students and college undergraduates, ages 16-24 who want to volunteer at LAX. While directing guests and assisting with internal events at the airport, students will learn about the many jobs and opportunities in the field of aviation and get to meet travelers from around the world.

The Bay Foundation 5-Year Report on LAX Dunes 6-Acre Restoration Area Suggests a Healthy Dune Habitat
(Los Angeles, CA) After five years of restoration efforts by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), The Bay Foundation (TBF), and their partners, including Friends of the LAX Dunes (FOLD) and thousands of volunteers, the LAX Dunes Coastal Dunes Improvement Project (CDIP) area is a dramatically improved habitat with mostly native plants that supports an abundance of native and rare wildlife. As one of the largest coastal dune systems in Southern California, protection and restoration of the LAX Dunes is vital for regional conservation. A five-year post-restoration assessment conducted by TBF is summarized in a technical report called the Los Angeles International Airport Coastal Dunes Improvement Project Ecological Monitoring Report.

LAX Pilots "AskLAX" Kiosks
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is offering guests a fun and innovative way to stay informed with the launch of self-assistance kiosks in two of LAX's terminals, Terminal 2 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal. The AskLAX kiosks provide a wealth of information at the touch of a virtual button across a 36-inch touch screen. This includes terminal maps, concession and retail information, emergency information, transportation options, and traffic conditions. Guests can even take email-able selfies. Additionally, guests can speak directly with a knowledgeable LAX GEM (Guest Experience Member) over video chat in real-time.

LAX's ACE Academy Showcases Aviation Careers to Middle and High School Students
(Los Angeles, CA) – Los Angeles International Airport's (LAX's) annual Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy kicked off this week for nearly 40 students participating in a week-long tour of two airports and exposure to more than 150 aviation-related career paths. The program started on Monday for middle school students at City of Los Angeles Fire Station 5, and will last for one week. The program for high school students begins next Monday, June 25.

LAX and United Airlines Welcome Humboldt County Students to Explore New Horizons on New Nonstop Service to Los Angeles
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) joined with United Airlines to welcome thirteen middle and high school students and their chaperones from Humboldt County to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) yesterday.  Upon their arrival, United staff members took the students on a tour of the airfield and explained how passenger luggage is handled, sorted and assigned to specific baggage claim areas.  During the tour, workers emphasized the company's focus on employee professionalism, timeliness and following safety procedures at all times.  From there, the tour continued into United's Station Operations Control where flights are managed and coordinated to ensure timely departures.  Students toured the Emergency Operations Center where the airline handles crises, and the group also learned about different career options in the Aviation industry.
