Bob Hope USO Moves Into New Home at LAX's Historic Theme Building
(Los Angeles, CA) Bob Hope USO celebrated its move into the historic Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Wednesday with a grand opening event that featured remarks from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who served his country as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve and was instrumental in the project to relocate the USO Center, and leadership from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the Bob Hope USO and military officials. The ceremony and a ribbon cutting were attended by nearly 500 supporters and community leaders.

LAX, American Association of Airport Executives, Debut New "Ride App Pickup" Icon to Clearly Identify Pick-Up/Drop-Off Areas at U.S. Airports
(Los Angeles, CA) This month, Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) officials, in partnership with the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) deployed a new wayfinding sign to help guests find app-based ride services at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The new term, called Ride App Pickup, was developed in partnership between LAWA, AAAE, and other national airports, and is expected to gradually be deployed at airports across the U.S. in the coming months. LAX is the first airport to debut the new term and icon.

Successful North Complex Power Shutdown Exercise Provides Valuable Insight on LAX's Power Resiliency
(Los Angeles, CA) Late in the evening of Tuesday, September 11, more than 300 personnel from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Los Angeles Airport Police Division, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, concessionaires, airlines, and airport partners gathered on the roof of Parking Structure 2A and at the Department Operations Center (DOC) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to commence an overnight power exercise. The planned exercise assessed the impact a complete loss of power would have on the north terminals (Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3) and the resiliency of the systems in place in the case of such a power failure. The exercise, while only on the north complex, provided a real-time test of the backup generators, fire/life/safety systems, emergency communications and recovery protocols that are in place in the case of a major power failure.

Board of Airport Commissioners Increases Investment in Musical Arts Program at LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) Yesterday, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved an amendment to add an additional $150,000 to the contract with Grand Performances for the development and production of cultural programming at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Grand Performances collaborates with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) on the LAX Presents program, which features Los Angeles-based artists performing in the unique space of an international airport. The 2018 LAX Presents line-up includes 18 performances across nine months, including six classical performances, a DJ with dancers and a percussionist, a marionette show, and a dance troupe influenced by the India subcontinent.

(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) has approved L.A. Gateway Partners (LAGP) as the Recommended Developer (RD) for the Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) Facility and has initiated the first agreement between the parties. The agreement with LAGP sets in motion the path towards full contract approval by BOAC and the Los Angeles City Council to design, build, finance, operate and maintain (DBFOM) the ConRAC at LAX.

LAX officials expect 1,131,405 passengers to use the airport between Friday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 4 this year. That compares to 1,105,295 for the same Friday - Tuesday period in 2017.

LAWA Welcomes New LAFD Assistant Chief Elise Brodowy as Liaison to LAX and VNY Airports
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Battalion Chief Elise "Nikki" Brodowy was recently appointed as Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Liaison alongside her promotion to Assistant Chief. In her new role, Assistant Chief Brodowy will oversee all LAFD operations at Los Angeles International (LAX) and Van Nuys (VNY) general aviation airports, including emergency response and coordination between LAFD and other first responders operating at both airports. As an LAFD veteran, Chief Brodowy brings 24 years of leadership and administrative experience to her position, which will be applied to matters of public safety and airport security.

LAWA CEO Flint and Board President Burton Head to Asia to Join Delegation Led by Mayor Garcetti to Promote International Trade and Tourism
(Los Angeles, CA) Today, Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) President Sean Burton and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) CEO Deborah Flint are traveling to Asia to join Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti for a portion of his 10-day trade mission. President Burton and CEO Flint will be working with Mayor Garcetti and representatives from the Port of Los Angeles, the Department of Convention and Tourism Development and the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board to further promote travel and tourism between our partners and pave the way for possible new routes and nonstop destinations to and from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and key Asian cities. For their portion of the trade mission, President Burton and CEO Flint will both be traveling to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hong Kong.
